3 hidden seasonal energy traps that risk your sustainable success

Winter in Australia has just started. For many organisations the end of the financial year is looming. You might have noticed that something is shifting – in us and around us.

Nature and organisations follow rhythm and patterns. These systemic principles have a huge impact on how well you feel and how sustainably you can deliver on your important projects and tasks.

Winter naturally is a time to go inwards. It’s a time of rest and endings. It is a space where humans can create space for new things to be able to emerge in spring. One of your important tasks is to prepare the ground for future successes.

In times of ongoing change and big goals, you might be running on autopilot, constantly delivering on your next milestone. Now is the time to stop and reflect: Are you still on the path that you personally had chosen? Do you have all the conditions for success lined up in your favour?

Here are three seasonal energy traps that can risk your sustainable success.

  1. Consistently running on high-energy even now when your environment is more supportive of a slower pace.
--> It’s time to withdraw from the outside world: What do you need to get a break from?

  1. Hanging onto habits that belong to another season.
--> It’s the time of endings: What do you need to let go off to have a better start into the next financial year?

  1. Not noticing subtle energy shifts in yourself, other people and the environment.
--> It’s time to collect new energy for your next phase. Do an energy audit: What will be your sources of energy for your next phase?

Take a 30-60 minutes break and explore these questions – journaling or mind mapping or scribbling are all good methods. Meditate or go for a walk. Do whatever gets you in reflective thinking mode.

This might feel like a luxurious activity right now. Remember that the more clarity you have as a leader, the better for your team, your stakeholders and ultimately it will support you to deliver better, more sustainable results.
