Small things can have a big impact. They have the potential to start a Tsunami of good stuff.
Never ever underestimate the ripple effect that seemingly small events and activities can have.
We often forget and undervalue them. At the end of a year, we look back and it’s often hard to remember the small things… unless, you have captured them in some form (journal, photos, calendar notes, in Evernote/OneNote)
Many of us are working towards a big vision or have an important purpose. And… we sometimes get frustrated about the time it takes to actually get there. That’s normal. However, it can be quite energy-draining and leave us unfocused and exhausted.
Thus, I’d like to encourage you to do a gratitude session for small things at the end of this year.
2021 definitely was tough and exhausting for many. It’s important to acknowledge that and then shift your focus to the small and good stuff. Most likely, there has been a lot of small stuff that energised you and that you were grateful for in that moment.
Gratitude can shift perspectives, improve health and happiness. Expressing gratitude can strengthen relationships.
Looking back to 2021, I’d like to acknowledge Will Wise for leaving us with some great questions. I met Will a few years ago and one short conversation we had stuck in my mind as extra-ordinary. I can still see where it took place and what we discussed. A few weeks ago, Will passed away after a long illness. His business partner Chad Littlefield shared the following questions with us. They were typical for Will. They are part of his legacy.
What brings you joy?
What is this moment teaching you right now?
What is a crossroads you are at?
I believe these questions are very fitting for an end of year reflection. Add them to your review process and Will’s legacy will live on through them. Small questions with potentially big impact!
Gratitude has a focus on either the past or the present moment.
We all also need something to look forward to – and or something that gives us meaning and purpose in each moment.
Swimming with Whale Sharks has been on my bucket list for at least 10 years. I’ve booked a trip to Western Australia for next year May and I am very much looking forward to it. It gives me great joy just to think about it.
I have swum with Manta Rays, Seals, Dolphins and many other fish before. It’s an out-of-this world experience to come in close contact with creatures of the ocean. It’s very energising and perspective changing.
Even though that COVID might throw us a curveball and change travel plans, I’m committing to planning something extra-ordinary for each month. Some of these activities will be big – like the Whale Sharks – and others small, like meeting a friend for a sunrise walk.
What are your plans for 2022? What will bring you joy?
Wishing you and your family a healthy and happy holiday season and a
Naturally Successful 2022.
Thank you for being part of my community!
Naturally yours,
